Our Story

We are a world-famous, iconic beachfront restaurant proudly serving Pacific Beach and its guests since 1970. Dieter May was born in Austria, first visited San Diego in kindergarten, and made the intelligent decision to move there after college. Nearly 20 years ago, he opened a World Famous restaurant in Pacific Beach to serve fresh, locally caught seafood and beach drinks inspired by his surf journeys around the world.

May opened Fat Fish Cantina Grill a few blocks up Mission Boulevard. Today, he continues to travel to exotic beaches, only now he's hitting (smaller) waves with his three daughters. And while he isn't bringing home gold trophies for surfing, his award-winning coastal cuisine and cocktails keep luring his decades-old and brand-new devotees to his Pacific Beach restaurants.

The cocktails showcased here, combined with the other drinks comprising May's annual list of beach-themed beauties, are meant to kick-start summer in San Diego, giving visitors the best of the beaches of France, Mexico, Malibu, and more.
